Why doesn't "I'm a Woman - Vote for Me" Work as a Political Message?

Suddenly there are people posting on Daily Kos with an epiphany — hey this is the women’s  election and women will put a stop to Trump!

Folks, last time I checked, Nancy Pelosi was a woman, and she has been Democratic Leader in the House of Representatives for more than a decade.  I ask you, where has this gotten the Democratic Party?

We really need to stop focusing on gender arguments that play right into Trump’s plan to divide us.

I am happy we actually took the House, but honestly, as a historical matter, that was to be expected.

The awful fact must be confronted: Trump went full fascist, and he overperformed.

And there was no real pushback from House Dems led by Pelosi. Or from Senate Dems led by Schumer.

My takeaway from this election is this: we need to be mindful of any effort by Trump or anyone else to divide us along gender, racial, or other lines.

In order for Trump to be defeated, the Democratic leadership must change.  This is not about gender, this is about solidarity.  And Pelosi and Schumer have solidarity with the rich, not with the people working for a living.

If Democratic women continue to bash men and demand that they be put in power (when in fact a strong woman has already have been in power in the Democratic Party for years) or if Democratic men continue to talk about how this was a “women’s victory”, then we will surely lose to Trump in 2020.

In fact, this was a significant squandering by the Democratic leadership of an incredible opportunity.

For that, they should resign and let new blood, of all genders and races, take over.
